Decorating the Christmas Tree

Samuel couldn't wait to put up the Christmas tree and decorate it this year. We let him do most of it because he was so excited.

He did a great job, but our tree is a little unbalanced. Most of the ornaments are on the bottom half and several branches have more than one ornament on them. We were going to rearrange them, but decided to just leave them since Samuel was so excited about the great job he had done.

Little Hands Toward Heaven - Unit 7

This unit was about Young Moses. We also learned the Letter F. Our fingerplay was called Baby in the Basket. We started out reading about how the Israelites were slaves in Egypt. We talked about what it meant to be a slave and how they had to make bricks. We pretended to make our own bricks and then built things out of blocks. Samuel liked that part.

The second day we read about Moses' mother putting him in a basket by the water. Daddy was home from work that day, so he did school with us. Samuel made a craft with Moses in his basket hiding in the grass.

We also made a Letter F on the floor out of masking tape and then Samuel covered it up with all his blocks.

The second day we read about Pharoah's daughter finding Moses and taking care of him. For our art project, Samuel painted a letter F. He started out doing really well staying in the lines, but that didn't last very long.

The next day we read about God speaking to Moses from the burning bush. We also read a devotion about forgiveness. Samuel did his Letter F worksheet where he had to circle the F's.

We also did the Number Seven page for our counting book. Samuel glued 7 shoes on the page to show how Moses took his shoes off when God was speaking to him from the bush because the ground was holy.

Our last story was about Moses and Aaron going to the Pharoah and asking him to let the Israelites go. When the Pharoah said no, they said that the water would be turned to blood. I put some water in a tub and let Samuel play with it for a little while. Then, I had him close his eyes while I added food coloring to it to represent blood. Then we talked about how that water wouldn't be good to drink, or to use to wash clothes, dishes, or to take a bath.

Painting a Pumpkin

Adam was in Phoenix all week for work, so we didn't get to decorate our pumpkin until today. Instead of carving it, we decided to let Samuel paint it. He really liked painting it and I think we'll have to make it a tradition!
