Little Hands Toward Heaven - Unit 9

This unit was called God's Laws. We started out learning about the Ten Commandments. We made a sticker book using numbers 1-10. Each page had a number on it and Samuel put the appropriate number of stickers on the page.

The second day we read about the people of Israel praying to the golden calf and talked about how we are only supposed to pray to God. Our letter for the week was H so we made an H out of beans. Normally, Samuel loves anything that involves glue, but he was in a wierd mood and didn't want to finish.

The third day we talked about God's people bringing gifts to help build the tabernacle. We did a lot of fun stuff that day. Samuel did his Letter H worksheet and did a great job finding all the upper and lower case H's.

Then we did the Number 9 page for our counting book. We found pictures of jewelry, perfume, and cloth to represent the different gifts that the people brought for God's house.

Then, we built a tabernacle out of legos and a cloth napkin. We put some coins and some paper in it to represent the gifts of money and cloth that the people brought.

The next day we read about how God's presence would settle over the Tabernacle in a fire. When the fire moved, the Israelites would pack their tents and follow it until the fire stopped. When it stopped, they would make camp. We made a "tent" out of Samuel's little table and blanket. I shone a flashlight above his tent to represent God's fire. When I moved the light, he would pack up his tent and move to wherever the light was. He loved this!

The last day we read about the Israelite spies going into Canaan and coming back with large bunches of grapes and other fruit. They told how the land was very rich, but the people who lived there were big and powerful. They were afraid to move there because they didn't trust God to take care of them. For our art project, we made bunches of grapes by gluing cotton balls on construction paper. When we got done, Samuel told me that grapes are not white and we needed to paint them, so he painted them purple like the picture in his Bible.

Then we made our letter H on the floor. Samuel loves tape days! He wanted to put all his Star Wars toys on the H.

Goodbye Mr. President

A friend had this video on her blog and I thought it was really neat. This is a song Steven Curtis Chapman wrote called, "Goodbye Mr. President" as a tribute to George W. Bush. If you want to listen and watch, scroll down to the bottom of the screen and stop the other music first. Enjoy!

Snow!

We finally had a little snow and Samuel was so excited to go outside and play in it. It didn't stick around for very long, but he had fun while it lasted.

Having a snowball fight with Daddy!
