Unit 6 was titled Joseph Becomes a Leader. Our rhyme for the week was called Joseph's Brothers. Samuel liked it but had a hard time doing some of the motions. We had to use our fingers to count to 10 and he couldn't figure out how to get the fingers he wanted up at the right time.
The first day we read about Pharoah's dream and how Joseph interpreted it for him. We made the Number Six page for our counting book. We were supposed to cut out pictures of pillows or blankets to put on the page, but we could only find one in our magazines. We did find some pictures of people sleeping though so we used those.
The next day we read about how Pharoah put Joseph in charge of the people. We played a game of Joseph, May I (just like Mother, May I) to remind us that Joseph was in charge. Samuel worked on his letter worksheet and did a great job finding all the letter E's. I tried to get him to practice writing an E but he didn't even want to try and I didn't want to force him.
The next day we read about how Joseph's brothers came to him during the famine to ask for food. We also talked about how they didn't recognize Joseph even though he recognized them. For our art project, Samuel drew a picture of Joseph. Then we covered him up and sprinkled sugar on the paper to make it look like sand. It shows that if you look at the picture you wouldn't recongize that Joseph was there unless you look deeper, just like Joseph's brothers didn't recognize him. We didn't have any brown paper, so I used some tan paper, but it didn't turn out looking very sandlike. Oh well, Samuel had fun doing it!
The desert sand....
....Joseph hiding underneath
The next day we read about how Joseph forgave his brothers. We also read a devotional about how God loves everyone. Then we made a letter E out of beans. Samuel loved this because he got to play with the glue.
The last day we read about Joseph seeing his father, Jacob, again and Jacob blessing Joseph's sons.
One thing Samuel does everyday when we read our Bible story is that he wants to start at the beginning of his Bible and go through each story. He can actually remember them and give me a short summary of each one just by seeing the pictures. Here's a video from today. I'll warn you that it's about 5 minutes long. Also, if you are going to watch it, you will need to scroll down to the bottom of the screen and pause the music first. Enjoy!
